No reason to be panicked over Digital Security Act: Quader
The ‘Digital Security Act’ would not create any barrier to independent journalism and freedom of expression in the country, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday.
“The ‘Digital Security Act’ has been enacted to control digital crimes. The act will not create any barrier to independent journalism…There are no reasons to be panicked,” he told the reporters, after visiting the development works on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways at Bhogra in Gazipur.
Quader, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, said, “The new law aims to prevent digital crimes and ensure digital security. There’s no reason to be panicked about it and the law wouldn’t create an obstacle to journalism and freedom of expression.”
About former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s book-‘A Broken Dream:Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy’-, the minister said, “Why did SK Sinha publish the book ahead of the parliamentary polls? He could have published it two or three months later….through this he tried to incite the propaganda of anti-government elements. If he had such an intention, a question mark will be put on the responsibility of aformer chief justice.”
Replying to a question over formation of ‘Greater National Unity’, he said, there’s nothing to worry about it ahead of the election.
“We believe that the Awami League under the dynamic leadership of its president and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has earned the trust of the people through development and good governance.”
Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Advocate Jahangir Alam and Roads and Highways Department Superintendent Engineer Sabuj Uddin Khan, among others, were present.
