MC College gang-rape: Two more accused arrested
Two more Sylhet MC College hostel gang-rape accused were arrested on Sunday night.
Accused No. 3 and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Mahbubur Rahman Rony, 28, and accused No. 5 Rabiul Islam were arrested by RAB and police respectively. With them, four accused of the case have up to now been arrested.
Mahbubur Rahman Rony was arrested by RAB from Shayestaganj, while Rabiul Islam by police from Nabiganj in Habiganj distric.
Habiganj Police Super Mohammad Ali confirmed the arrest of Rabiul Islam on Sunday night.
Two other arrested accused of the case were Saifur Rahman and Arjun Laskar.
Prime accused Saifur Rahman was arrested from Noarai Kheyghat area under Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj district at about 8:00am on Sunday, while Arjun Laskar, son of Kanu Laskar, of village Atgram in Jakiganj, was arrested from Montola border area under Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj district.
It might be mentioned a newly-wed woman was gang-raped allegedly by several activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, at Murari Chand College in Sylhet on Friday evening.
The victim's husband was kept confined in the male students' hostel of the school during the incident.
Police said that Shah Paran police, being informed, rescued the girl and her husband at around 10:30 pm from an area of the student hostel at Baluchar in the town.
Police conducted a raid on the student hostel at around 2:00 am on Saturday.
They seized a number of weapons, including a light gun and four machetes, from an area meant for university teachers but where BCL leader Saifur have been living illegally for long, the authorities officer said.
Later, the victim's husband filed a case with the Shah Paran police station early Saturday accusing six discovered and three unnamed youths of raping his wife, one after another, after kidnapping them.
Shah Md Mahbubur Rahman Rony, 25, a Master's student of the English department of the MC College, university unit BCL leader Saifur Rahman, 28, Arzun Laskar, 25, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, 25, Rabiul Islam, 25, and Tarequl Islam Tareque, 28, were named accused in the event.
Sub-inspector Milton Nath also filed a case each morning against Saifur Rahman regarding the recovering arms from an area of the hostel occupied by Saifur.
