Killing people by firing becomes habit of government: Fakhrul
Today's government which found power through a 'voterless election' is rolling out a habit to kill persons in firing, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday.
He made the remarks condemning the killing of five staff by firing at a power plant at Banshkhali in Chattogram who were demonstrating because of their due salaries and allowances on Saturday morning.
Five personnel were killed in police firing and 23 others were injured throughout a demonstration on Saturday. Doctors said the condition of many of the bullet-ridden injured staff was critical.
In a statement, the BNP Secreary General said police took five lives by firing on the agitating workers if they were demonstrating demanding their outstanding salaries and allowances. "The federal government must shoulder the tasks of the killings," he said.
Fakhrul said undesirable sitaution have been arising repeatedly because of misuse of the law enforcement agencies on any issue. It has turned into a habit of today's Awami League government to kill persons by bullets.
The BNP leader said the government's such activities have exposed its fascist character. "Such an autocratic rule now prevailing in the united states where people have no right at all, and they would not be permitted to hold demonstration or lodge protest to realise their demands," he said.
He also demanded stern action against those who were involved with opening fire on staff at Banshkhali in Chattogram on Saturday morning and provide proper compensation to the families of the victims.
