Kanthashilan pays tribute to Naren Biswas
Recitation organisation Kanthashilan arranged a commemorative programme to pay tribute to Naren Biswas on Tuesday at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library.
The programme featured discussion on Naren Biswas, recitation and music. Noted Tagore singer Bulbul Islam began the programme with rendition of Tagore's popular song Tumi robey nirabe.
Following which, Sheikh Hasina University vice chancellor Dr Rafique Ullah Khan and Kanthashilan principal Mi Barkat discussed on Naren Biswas' contributions to literature and language research and recitation.
'Naren Biswas devoted his life to practicing and promoting recitation and Bangla language. Even after losing his vision, he travelled to different parts of the country and took classes on Bangla pronunciation and recitation,' said Dr Rafique Ullah Khan.
A number of renowned recitation artistes paid to tribute Biswas by reciting poems by renowned poets including Rabindranath Tagore, Sukanta Bhattacharya, Achintya Kumar Sengupta and others addressing issues like human relations, revolution, secularism and others.
Ahkam Ullah recited Jharna Rani O Bangladesher Ma penned by Anisul Haque. Alok Basu recited Rong Rejini penned by Rabindranath Tagore. Rafiqul Islam recited Monerekho by Sabyasachi Dev. Rajina Wali Leena recited Manabghran by Muhammad Nurul Huda.Naren Biswas, who was a professor at the Bangla department of Dhaka University, wrote poems, lyrics, plays and literary criticism.
He was also a theatre activist and wrote several plays including 'Nihoto Kushilob', 'Roudradin', 'Crossbiddho Jishu', 'Tamoshir Phashi', and 'Shakuntala'. A large number of audience enjoyed the show.
