Ijtema ground turns into battlefield; Over 100 injured
Over 100 people were injured during a clash between two factions of Tabligh-Jamaat on Saturday on Ijtema ground on the bank of the river Turag.
The clash ensued between the supporters of top leader of Tabligh Jamaat Maulana Saad Kandhalvi and their rivals this morning centreing five days of Jor Ijtema which turned into a battlefield.
Vehicular movement on the both side of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway remained suspended.
Police are trying to control the situation.
Earlier this morning, the supporters of Maulana Jubayer took position in front of the entry gate of the Ijtema field and another group who support Maulana Saad obstructed them from entering the field.
The follower of Maulana Saad started to gather in front of the maidan from 6am and took position in front of main gate.
The conflict between the two factions continued from the last session of Biswa Ijtema, Tabligh Jamaat's annual event and the largest Muslim congregation after the hajj.
The groups locked into another clash over the conflict at Dhaka's Kakrail Mosque, the headquarters of the religious group's Bangladesh chapter, in April last.
