Ishraq faces graft charges; Taposh clean
Both Awami League and BNP have nominated young and well-educated candidates  having clean image for contesting the mayoral post in the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election slated for January 30.

Although Awami League nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has been proved clean, but BNP candidate Engineer Ishraq Hossain is facing  graft charges.

Two cases filed against Taposh in 2002 and 2003 have been disposed of several years ago.  

Taposh has the highest annual income of Tk 9.81 crore while Ishraq has Tk 91.58 lakh, according to their affidavits submitted to the Election commission.

Fazle Noor Taposh is the son of Jubo League founding chairman and Bangabandhu’s nephew Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni. Taposh’s elder brother Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash has recently been elected Jubo League Chairman.

Barrister Taposh earns Tk 1,46,50,000 annually form his profession. His rest source of income is agriculture, house rent, salary, business and investment in the stock market.

His annual income mentioned in the affidavit submitted in 2018 was Tk 10,04,78,621.    

Taposh is the owner of three cars while his wife is one.

He was the owner of movable property of Tk 104,71,53,433 in 2018. Not, the ammount has been increased to Tk 108,93,78,443. His wife's movable property worth Tk 9,82,51,727.

Besides, he has Tk 12 crore immovable assets of his own and his wife has around Tk 13 crore.

Meanwhile, Ishraq is a member of BNP and son of former mayor of undivided Dhaka city Sadeque Hossain Khoka. He has a MSc degree in engineering.

According to his affidavit, his annual income is Tk 91.58 lakh. His source of income is house rent, salary, business and investment in the stock market.

His total moveable and immovable assets are Tk 5.76 crore and cash Tk only 33, 109.

Ishraq has taken a loan of over Tk 61 lakh from his mother.
 
A case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against (ACC) is now under trial.
