HC orders to accept Golam Rabbani's application
The High Court on Monday ordered the returning officer to accept the application of BNP nominee Golam Rabbani, organisational Amir of Rangpur District unit Jamaat-e Islam, for the Rangpur-5 constituency.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil gave the order alongside a rule, reports bdnews24.com

Lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali, Imran A Siddique and Shishir Monir stood for Rabbani before court while Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state.

“The court also issued a rule asking why the refusal to accept Golam Rabbani’s application should not be considered illegal,” Shishir Monir said after the hearing. “The Rangpur returning officer must answer the rule within two weeks.”

“They also ordered the nomination to be accepted quickly before the rule is settled.”

BNP nominated Jamaat leader Golam Rabbani told the media that he had gone to submit all necessary papers for the nomination to the returning officer’s office on Nov 28 at 2:50pm.

He said he waited for a long time but was not allowed to enter his room. He also claimed that they were subjected to various forms of harassment. Finally the returning officer said he was unable to accept the nomination.

“I petitioned the Election Commission last Saturday to handle the issue after he refused to accept by nomination.”

“I moved the High Court after the Election Commission failed to remedy the situation.”
