Hasan Imam, Ferdousi Mazumder to get Altaf Mahmud
Veteran actor and media personality Syed Hasan Imam and prominent stage and screen actress Ferdousi Mazumder have been named for the Shaheed Altaf Mahmud award this year.The award giving ceremony will be held at 6 pm on August 30, marking the death anniversary of Altaf Mahmud.
Altaf Mahmud was active in the country's major political struggles including the language movement and Liberation War.
He composed the iconic language movement song "Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February". He was a member of Dhaka Crack Platoon and worked as a producer at the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War.
Every year on this day since 2005 Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation hands over awards on his name to distinguished cultural personalities to pay respect to him.
The awards this year will be handed over at the Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
