Govt prepared for any natural disaster: Enamur
State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Ministry Dr. Enamur Rahman today said the government had taken all necessary preparations to face natural disasters effectively.
“Sufficient relief materials had been stocked and all-out preparations have been taken to distribute them to the flood-affected people,” he told a meeting of District Disaster Management Committee organized by th district administration at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha town today.
Deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shamim, Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary and senior secretary of Relief and Disaster Management Ministry Shah Kamal were present at the meeting as special guests.
Terming the government of Sheikh Hasina as stronger than any other period, Dr. Enamur said Bangladesh had become a disaster-resilient country as the government had intensified its efforts for tackling any natural disaster efficiently.
He urged all stakeholders including party men to stand beside the flood affected people to mitigate their sufferings.
Being informed of the situation of the current flood in the district from officials and participants, the state minister allocated 500 metric tons of rice, 500 bundles of corrugated iron sheet, and Taka 5 lakh to the flood affected people in the district.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque said the government had built a number of flood control embankments in the country for protecting the people from floods. A project involving Taka 250 crore had been taken and it was now in the pipeline, the deputy minister said, adding that after getting approval by the ECNEC, the project would be implemented for the maintenance of 50 km flood control embankment of the district.
With acting DC Rokhsana Begum in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary Rokon Ud-Doula, superintending engineer of BWDB Harun Ur Rashid, police super Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, mayor of Gaibandha Muncipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon. Earlier, civil surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, deputy director of department of Agriculture Extension Dr. SM Ferdous, executive engineer of department of public health engineering Aminul Islam Chowdhury, district livestock officer Dr. Abdus Samad and district fisheries officer Abdud Dayan Dulu presented their departmental reports related to losses and damages caused by the flood.
Later, the state minister and the deputy minister visited the flood affected Fazilupur union of Fulchhari upazila and distributed relief materials to the flood victims.
