Govt for family-based rehabilitation of third-gender
Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said government is giving effort to rehabilitate the third-gender community in families.
Rashed Khan Menon made the statement during the question-answer period of the 22nd parliament session on Sunday afternoon (Sep 16).
The minister said, “The government has recognized Hijras as thirs genders. Government has programs for their rehabilitation. We’re trying to rehabilitate them in the families, rather than keeping them outside of society. Our aim is to include Hijras in the society. We are doing our programs with officials of the ministry of Social Welfare and NGOs. A seminar will be held within a few days in this regard. We’ll make our next decision based on the opinions arise from the seminar.”
