EC secretary trashes BNP allegation of secret meeting
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed brushed aside the BNP leaders’ allegation about a secret meeting of some secretaries, including the EC secretary, and top officials from RAB and police over the upcoming election.

“This is just propaganda,” said Ahmed replying to a question at a news conference in Dhaka on Saturday. He urged the BNP leaders to refrain from falsehood, reports bdnews24.

The EC secretary’s response came hours after the BNP reiterated its demand to withdraw several government officials from the electoral process after alleging they were involved in a ‘secret meeting on election engineering’.

“Some controversial and partisan officers in the police and administration have been plotting to help the Awami League remain in power. They are having secret meetings regularly,” said BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Rizvi claimed such a meeting took place at the third-floor conference room at the Officers’ Club on the night of Nov 20.

The EC secretary said he works in line with the rules of the Election Commission and has no interest beyond his job.

Ahmed said, “The commission will decide on the BNP’s demands and false allegations at its meeting on Sunday."

On whether any action will be taken against BNP for the ‘false’ allegations, he said, “This will be brought to the meeting tomorrow. Action will be taken in accordance with the decision of the Election Commission.”

Earlier, the BNP had written to the Election Commission to call for the transfer of the EC secretary, the public administration secretary, the DMP commissioner and some deputy commissioners, bdnews24 added.
