Polls schedule within a week: EC Secretary
Schedule for the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections will be announced within next one week, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
The EC Secretary said this during an inter-ministerial meeting on overall preparation of the parliamentary elections and directives to implement them in EC conference room on Wednesday (October 31).
Regarding the meeting, Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam told Banglanews: “All the ministries and departments will be given the necessary instructions for implementation of our preparation work for the election.”
“In this case, special instructions will be given to BG Press, law enforcement agencies, Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Education,” Rafiqul Islam added.
After inter-ministerial meeting, EC will meet the President Abdul Hamid on November 1. As per EC's plan, after meeting with the President, the commission will sit for a meeting about announcement of the schedule for the election.
The fist session of 10th parliament started on January 29, 2014, therefore, the tenure ends on January 28, 2019. According to constitution, EC is compelled to hold the election within 90 days before expiry of this Jatiya Sangsad. EC is planning to hold the election in the middle of December after announcing the schedule at the beginning of November.
