DUCSU VP issues ultimatum for punishing attackers
The newly-elected Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur on Wednesday gave ultimatum to the university authorities to take necessary steps against the alleged attackers of SM hall within Monday.

However, Nur threatened to go for hard line if his demands are not met.

The demand came from a protest rally arranged at Raju memorial sculpture after holding a meeting with vice-chancellor at Wednesday morning.

Nur said, “We think discussion with the VC has become fruitful. He has listened to our complaints.”

“Proper actions were not taken against Chhatra League, despite their involvement in various attacks in the university.
Exemplary punishment against those involved in yesterday’s incident should be seen by the next Monday. If the authority cannot take that action, we will announce the next course of protest then,” Nur added.

The demands produced before the VC are- exemplary punishment for those who attacked and assaulted them, all the outsiders and students staying illegally have to be deported from the hall.

Nur said that “University administration assured us of solving the matters.”

On Tuesday afternoon, under the leadership of Ducsu VP Nur, several panel members who boycotted the Ducsu polls, formed a human chain in front of the Raju Sculpture to protest against the assault on Farid Hasan of SM Hall.

When the protesters went to the hall to meet the provost for submitting memorandum, Chhatra League activists tried to stop them from meeting the provost and threw eggs on them.

During the scuffle, Nur was surrounded by Chhatra League activists and reportedly slapped by hall union VP Kamal Hossain, alleged the Ducsu VP.

Meanwhile, VP candidate Auroni Shemonti Khan, GS candidate Umme Habiba Benzeer, Shamsunnahar hall union VP Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi were also allegedly assaulted by ruling party student wing’s men.

Later they staged sit in program in front of VC's resident from Tuesday evening and continued till Wednesday morning. The VC came and talked to them following a meeting.

Farid Hasan, a postgraduate student of the university's Urdu department, was forced to pull out of the election race allegedly after threats by members of the Chhatra League, he claimed.

Following his candidacy, the hall unit Chhatra League men allegedly beat him and Ducsu VP also was assaulted following the incident.
