DU protesters to hold 'solidarity assembly' Thursday
 Dhaka University Students staged demonstration protesting against the recent attack on the students and teachers and demanding resignation of the DU Proctor for his 'failure' to ensure security to the teachers and students.

The students under the banner of 'Students against repression' brought out a rally from the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla around 1:10 pm on Tuesday and marched towards the office of Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, reports UNB.

Abu Raihan, a 3rd year student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism submitted a memorandum to the VC seeking resignation of the proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani, on behalf of the students.

Later, the DU VC Prof Akhteruzzaman said the memorandum will be sent to the probe committee and the committee will take decision over it.

He also said if there is any allegation against someone than it should be submitted to him in written statement.

Besides, a group of teachers demanded punishment of those involved in the recent attacks on teachers and students.

The teachers under the banner of 'Teachers against repression' held a press conference at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the campus.

Samina Lutfa, a teacher of the Department of Sociology read out the statement at the press conference.

They declared to hold 'teachers' solidarity assembly' at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla around 11 am on July 19 and arrange a cultural programme against repression at Kalabhaban on July 23.

Professor Fahmidul Haq and Associate Professor Abdur Razzaque Khan of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Associate Professor Tanjim Uddin Khan, Professor Abdul Mannan of International Relation Department and Professor Munasir Kamal of English Department were present there.

On Sunday, BCL leaders and activists allegedly assaulted some quota movement activists and teachers of the Dhaka University while they were forming a human chain on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city, demanding immediate release of the arrested quota movement leaders and punishment of the attackers.
