DU assures to take action against fraudulences
Amid criticism, Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Tuesday published the entrance test results of ‘Gha-unit’ for 2018-19 academic session under social science faculty of DU with 26.21% percent pass.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman announced the results at the central admission office in the administrative building of the university in the afternoon.

A total of 18,463 students, among 70,440 who took part in the entry tests, secured pass marks in the examination. This year the combined pass rate is 26.21 percent where in Science 24.56%, 47.89% in Humanities and in Business 17.94%.

Earlier on Monday, hours after issuing a press release on publishing the results on Tuesday, the Dhaka University authorities issued another press release saying that the result publishing has been postponed as per the directives of the VC over the allegation of question paper leakage.
However, the result was published later on Tuesday.

While addressing the press conference, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said that there was no chance of spreading rumors centering question paper leak, the university authority has already identified a vested quarter involved in the question paper leakage and action will be taken as per the investigation report.

He further said that DU authority has already received a report of investigation committee where they found ‘proof of digital forgery’ and university authority tried to unearth the circle of question paper leakage gang with assistance of different intelligence bodies.

He also said that ‘previously question paper was leaked two days earlier of the exam and this time it was 9:17am’ and it was remarkable in the history of the university that members of vested quarter were nabbed in the day of the exam and taking action instantly.

He also assured that the university authority would take action against the fraudsters whenever they get any evidence of fraudulence.

Brushing aside any chance of retaking the test, VC said that they had no right to cause hassle to huge number of aspirants once again and they could not take any action without sufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, A third year Law department student of the university Akhter Hossain on Tuesday noon started fast unto death at the anti-terrorism Raju memorial sculpture of the university demanding cancelation of the controversial admission test.

Besides, Progressive Students Alliance, a platform of left student wings DU chapter in a press conference held at Madhu’s canteen of the university demanded cancelation of the exam and resignation of DU social science faculty dean Sadeka Halim who was also the coordinator of the exam.

They also announced to bring out a torch procession on Wednesday to press home their demands.

The results are available on the university website www.admission.eis.du.ac.bd or students can get the results through sending SMS using any mobile operator. To get result through SMS, one will have to type “DU GHA roll number” and send it to 16321. 
 
Students who obtained the pass marks have been asked to fill in the subject choice forms from October 22 to October 31. 
 
DU Pro Vice chancellor (administration) Prof Dr. Muhammad Samad, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Coordinator of Gha-unit admission test Prof Dr Sadeka Halim were present at the function, among others.

Law enforcers have found evidence that the hand-written question paper of DU “Gha” unit admission test, which was leaked around 45 minutes prior to the exam, was sent from two admission information centres in Bogura to an applicant’s guardian.

Six people, including the admission seeker and his father, were arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident. Each of them was taken on a two-day remand on Sunday.
 
On Saturday, DU’s Chief Security Officer SM Kamrul Ahsan filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing the six and some others, under sections 22 and 33 of the Digital Security Act, and the Public Examination Act.
