City University fined Tk 10 lakh
The Appellate Division on Wednesday fined City University Tk 10 lakh for enrolling students in its Law department beyond the approved limit set by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order.
The court also asked the varsity authorities to pay the fine money to Bangladesh Bar Council.
According to the court order, the university must pay the amount of money from its own fund. You won't be allowed ever again to take this money from the students.
Earlier, some 25 students of the university filed a writ to be a part of the Bangladesh Bar Council examination.
Following writ, the High Court on October 24, 2019, issued a rule asking the varsity authorities to give the students registration cards to ensure that they will come in the exam.
The Bar Council, later, filed three leave to appeal petitions with the SC challenging the HC directives.
