Chattogram should adopt tech for a good facelift: experts
The general public and private sectors should work together to transform Chattogram into a smart city by adopting new technologies and innovations, analysts said yesterday.

They spoke at the Chattogram Innovation Dialogue held at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View.

Bangladesh Innovation Conclave together with Usage of Information (a2i) programme of the federal government, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Chittagong Girls Chamber of Commerce and Sector organised the dialogue.

Md Sirajul Islam, executive chairman of Bangladesh Expenditure Creation Authority, inaugurated the function as the principle guest.

The country's journey towards digital transformation needs to begin from Chattogram, said Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, managing director and CEO of Robi Axiata.

"A great area of Bangladesh could be transformed if the interface city could be transformed since metropolis has huge potential," he said in a keynote speech on "age digital disruption".

Chattogram, the country's major and second most populous division, possesses only a 4 per cent poverty fee and its gross national cash flow per capita stands at $6,000. Chattogram interface handles about 85 per cent of the country's total import and export.

The important challenges that the port city faces include: too little smart infrastructure, poor traffic management, low port efficiency, waterlogging, inadequate waste management, and inefficiency in the energy and energy sector, according to Ahmed.

He stressed the necessity for taking pragmatic steps regarding environment, market and governance so that you can transform Chattogram right into a linked and smart city.

Later at night, two panel discussions were held over "What should be the game plan for Chattogram business" and "Creating the future city -- next step".
