BLANKS - Man City Drop Points In UCL Opener

Manchester City started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a goalless draw against Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester City 0-0 Inter Milan
Date: 18 September 2024
Venue: Etihad

Rodri came in for his first start of the season, while Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva were recalled, with Kyle Walker, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Gundogan dropping to the bench.

The Citizens dominated possession in the early stages but it was Inter who carved out the first real chance on 18 minutes when Marcus Thuram did well to break forward but ended up dragging his effort wide. City had to wait until the midway period to get a sight at goal when Jack Grealish did well to play in Kevin de Bruyne, who could only find the side-netting from close range as the hosts started to up the tempo.

Inter nearly got a reward on the stroke of halftime as a swift counter-attack ended with Mehdi Taremi slipping Carlos Augusto down the left, but the forward was denied by Ederson at the near post.

Guardiola responded with a double change at the start of the second half, with Phil Foden and Gundogan replacing Savinho and De Bruyne, who looked to have picked up a knock.

Foden was presented with a big chance in the 69th minute after some neat passing in the box, however the England international could only send his right-footed effort straight at Yan Sommer.

The Citizens had the best chance of the game in the 90th miute when Gvardiol's inviting cross found an un-marked Gundogan, whose header sailed straight into the arms of Sommer as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.

Other results:
Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 Girona
Club Brugge 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
Celtic 5-1 Slovan
