Barishal mayor Kamal to resign Oct 4 facing pressure
Barishal City Corporation Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal announced his willingness to resign from his post on October 4 (Thursday) facing the pressure from anonymous quarter.

He said, after the transfer of BCC chief executive officer, secretary and magistrate, he failed to run financial transaction here from June 2018.

In a press conference in his house Monday afternoon, Kamal said he informed the authorities concerned about the problem several times. He begged order of transferring cheque signing power to another official, but in vain.

He said, facing the reality, payment of all types, including development work, electricity bill and other expenses and even payment of salaries of employees, workers and officials of BCC were stopped in last three month.

It is a painful and horrible situation, he adds. I also suspended the regular meeting of BCC council scheduled on October 2 as secretary of BCC already has been transferred.

Kamal said he has no way without resignation. “I have Tk 60 corer in BCC fund, but have no way to transaction.”  
BCC mayor Kamal however did not disclose anything about the pressure group.

With 143 corers taka debt liability, BNP-backed Mayor of Barisal City Corporation, Ahsan Habib Kamal, took charge on October 8 in 2013, 128 days after the 3rd BCC election.

In the last BCC election held on June 15, 2013, Kamal was elected Mayor by defeating outgoing Mayor, city AL president Sawkat Hossain Hiron with a margin of 17 thousand votes. Tenure of Kamal will be ended on October 23 this year.

Ahsan Habib Kamal was the first Mayor-in charge of BCC in 2002. He performed public duties as ward commissioner, chairman of Barisal Municipality, acting BCC Mayor for about 18 years. Kamal was defeated in BCC Mayor Elections in 2003 and 2008.
