Baby dies at DMCH after falling from mother’s lap
An 8-month-old baby succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) two days after she had been slipped from her mother’s lap getting hit of a running bus in Kushtia town.
Following post mortem at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), father of the deceased, Akifa, boarded an ambulance, around 2 pm, along with mother and other relatives on Thursday (August 30).
Head of Forensic Department of DMCH, Dr Sohel Mahmud told Banglanews: “Akifa became injured in the head after falling on the ground from her mother’s lap as mother was struck by a bus. This injury is the cause of her death.”
A Ganj-e-Raj Paribahan bus hit Rina Begum and drove away while she, holding Akifa in her lap, was crossing the road at Chawrhas point around 11:45 am on Tuesday (August 28) leaving two of them injured.
The injured mother and daughter were taken to Kushtia General Hospital and later shifted to DMCH upon deterioration of Akifa’s condition. Akifa died, around 5:00 am, during treatment on Thursday (August 30).
The video footage of the incident, filmed by a CCTV of a local shop, spread in social networking sites quickly.
