Aupee Karim's comeback with 'Debris of Desire'
Actor Aupee Karim is returning to the big screen after 15 years , with a film titled 'Debris of Desire.'The film is a joint production of Bangladesh and India and is based on Manik Bandopadhyay's two short stories titled 'Bishakto Prem' and 'Shubala.'
From Bangladesh, Jashim Ahmed will co-produce "Debris of Desire" with a well known West Bengal director, Indranil Roy Chowdhury. Initially the Bangla name for the film has been decided as 'Mayar Jonjal.'
Aupee's character in the film is named Soma and the actor will be seen playing a working mother based in Kolkata. In the film, Aupee is paired against a popular Tollywood actor whose name the producers have intentionally kept as a surprise.
While speaking about the film, the producer duo said: "'Debris of Desire' is the first film made under the new grant policy of joint production. For this film, we have taken two separate short stories by Manik Bandopadhyay. However, the screenplay is written such a way that both the stories focus on a single point of real life struggles."
"In this era of commercial films, the market for experimental cinema has slowed down a bit. We want to give a fresh image to this experimental genre of films and believe that 'Debris of Desire' will have a far-reaching impact for both the Bangla film industries," the producers concluded.
Aupee made her debut in cinema with Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's 'Bachelor,' for which the actor won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress in 2004. 'Debris of Desire' will mark her comeback in a lead role for the big screen after a long break.
