Atlanta law enforcement chief resigns above shooting death
Atlanta's Law enforcement Chief has resigned following the fatal shooting of an African-American who had fallen asleep found in his car at a good drive-through restaurant.
Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot by a officer during a struggle about Friday, authorities say.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said Erika Shields handed found in her resignation on Saturday.
Protesters found in Atlanta took to the roads this weekend calling to use it following Mr Brooks' death.
On Saturday evening, demonstrators shut down a significant highway, Interstate-75, in Atlanta.
In the last three weeks, people over the US have been protesting over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black guy in police custody.
Erika Shields had served as police chief since December 2016 and had worked in the Atlanta law enforcement department for a lot more than 20 years. She'll continue with the department in another part, Mayor Bottoms said.
"Because of her desire that Atlanta be a model of what meaningful reform should appear to be across this region Chief Shields has wanted to immediately step apart as Police Chief so that the city may progress with urgency and rebuilding the trust so desperately necessary throughout our communities," Mayor Bottoms said on a statement.
Mayor Bottoms in addition has needed the sacking of the officer involved with Brooks' death.
What happened on Friday night?
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) is probing the death of Brooks, 27, and is seeking at video from a security camera within the Wendy's restaurant and in addition eyewitness footage.
It says police have been called to the restaurant because Mr Brooks had fallen asleep in his car, which was blocking the drive-through lane.
Relating to police, Mr Brooks resisted arrest after he failed a breathalyzer test out.
A written report from the GBI said footage captured from inside Wendy's restaurant shows officers chasing Brooks before he turns and factors a Taser at an officer.

In the eyewitness video, Brooks is seen on the floor outside a Wendy's restaurant, struggling with two police officers.
He grabs an officer's Taser and breaks clear of the officers, running away. The other officer in that case manages to employ a Taser on Brooks and both officers afterward run out of the body of the video.
Gun shots can then be heard and Brooks is seen on the ground.
He was taken up to hospital but later died. Among the officers was cared for for a personal injury from the incident.
The Fulton County District Attorney's Business office is conducting another investigation into the incident, it said in a statement.
This is actually the 48th officer-involved shooting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has investigated this season, according to ABC Media. Of those cases, 15 of those were fatal.
