Artists SM Sultan, Quamrul Hassan and Qayyum Chowdhury remembered
Cultural personalities at a program on Monday affirmed that advent-grade artists - SM Sultan, Patua (folk artist) Quamrul Hasan and painter Qayyum Chowdhury - took the arts and crafts of Bangladesh to international levels, reports BSS.
The speakers said the three artists have enriched our arts and crafts with their unorthodox artworks as their masterpieces were assembled in different countries.
People throughout the world come to know about the art and culture of Bangladesh through the arts and crafts of the three pioneers, they added. They came up with the observation while addressing a program in remembrance of the three legend artists at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).
Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the commemorative seminar titled 'Smrity-Satta-Vabisshyat'. Artist Mustafa Zaman, writer-researcher Mofidul Hoque and artist Shaon Akand respectively presented and read their treatises on the lives and creative works of artists S M Sultan, Quamrul Hassan and Qayyum Chowdhury.
Artist Qayyum Chowdhury's wife Tahera Khanam Chowdhury, country's renowned artist Hashem Khan, Dhaka University Fine Art Faculty Dean Professor Nissar Hossain, art critic Moinuddin Khaled and BSA's fine arts director Ashraful Alam Poplu, among others, addressed the event.
