Ariful finally elected Sylhet city mayor
BNP candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury has finally been elected Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), after reelection in two suspended centres of the city held on Saturday.
Ariful bagged a total of 92,598 votes after getting 2102 votes in the two polling centers while Awami League candidate Kamran got 86,392 votes, including 527 votes from the latest two centres, said Returning Officer Md Alimuzzaman.
The two polling centres-- Gazi Burhanuddin Garam Dewan Government Primary School and Hobinandi Government Primary School-- of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) election were postponed due to various irregularities on July 30.
The BNP candidate took a lead of 4,626 votes in the polls of 132 centres out of 134 held on July 30.
Voting in the suspended two polling stations began at 8:00pm continued to 4:00pm without break.
On August 1, the Election Commission set the date for reelection in the two election centers where there are 4787 voters.
