Reelection at 2 Sylhet voting centres Aug 11
The reelection to two polling stations, where voting was postponed during Monday's Sylhet City Corporation polls, will be held on August 11.

The Election Commission on Wednesday fixed the date and sent a letter, signed by its joint secretary Farhad Ahmad Khan, to Returning Officer Md Alimuzzaman for taking necessary steps in this regard, reports UNB.

According to the letter, the reelection to Gazi Burhanuddin Garam Dewan Government Primary School and Hobinandi Government Primary School centres will be held on August 11.

There are 2,221 voters at Gazi Burhanuddin Garam Dewan Government Primary School centre while 2,566 at Hobinandi Government Primary School one.

The elections to Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet city corporations were held on Monday.

However, the announcement of the results was postponed in Sylhet as the number of votes in two centres where voting was suspended is higher than the difference between the two leading candidates' tallies.

BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury has taken a lead of 4,626 votes in 132 centres out of 134.

Ariful bagged 90,496 votes while Awami League's Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran polled 85,870 in 130.

The BNP candidate now needs only 162 votes in the reelection to the postponed centres having a total of 4,877 voters.

Returning Officer Md Alimuzzaman announced the results of the 132 centres at Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Sports Complex on Monday midnight.
