Aricha-Kazirhat ferry providers resume after 20yrs
The ferry service on the Aricha- Kazirhat route resumed on Saturday morning, after around twenty years.
Point out Minister for Shipping, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, inaugurated the path around 11:00 am as the chief guest.
AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy MP, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, Bangladesh Inland Water Transfer Corporation (BIWTC) Chairman Syed Md Tajul Islam, amongst others, were present at the programme.
Two ferries --Birshreshtha Matiur Rahman and Begum Rokeya-will be operated upon this route.
In line with the State Minister, the amount of ferries will be increased in the event that the pressure of travellers and automobiles increases in future.
The Matiur Rahman ferry left Aricha with 15 trucks.
Ferry services in the path remained suspended since 2001 due to poor navigability.
