Amar Bhashar Cholocchitro begins at Dhaka University
To celebrate the International Mother Language Day, a five-day film festival has begun yesterday at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University in the capital. Organized by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), the festival will feature 18 films including some Indian classics.
Titled 'Amar Bhashar Cholocchitro 1425', the festival will be inaugurated by Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar with DU former VC Professor Arefin Siddique and prominent film director Nasiruddin Yousuff Bacchu in attendance.
The festival will kick off with the screening of 'Debi', the biggest blockbuster of the last year. Based on the famous novel 'Debi' by Humayun Ahmed, the film features one of the iconic characters of Humayun Ahmed, Misir Ali. Directed by Anam Biswas, the film stars Chanchal Chowdhury and Jaya Ahsan, two of the most prolific and versatile actors of present time.
On the third day of the festival, February 13, DUFS will honor a filmmaker with Hiralal Sen Padak where Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Nasreen Ahmed, and other prominent personalities of the country's film industry are expected to remain present.
This year the festival has been arranged with films mostly created by the contemporary Bangladeshi filmmakers. In addition, the festival will also feature an exhibition where the posters of classic Bangladeshi films will be showcased. This is the 18th edition of the film fest which will continue from February 10 to 15.
