ACC finds 40pc doctors absent in 10 hospitals
In separate drives at 10 government hospitals in eight districts, including Dhaka, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (Jan 21) found that 40 percent of doctors were absent.
The rate was higher in Upazila level than cities. It was almost 68 percent in the eight hospitals and health centres outside Dhaka city.
After the five-hour-long drives beginning from 9:00am in hospitals and health centres, Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General (DG) of ACC, briefed the reporters at his Segunbaghicha office in the capital city.
"Some 92 out of 230 doctors were found absent in 11 hospitals and health centres hospitals in eight districts, including Dhaka, which is 40 percent of the total number," he added.
However, the teams found 81 out of 131 doctors absent in the eight hospitals in seven districts outside Dhaka which is 62 percent.
The hospitals are Workers' Welfare Hospital in Phulbaria of Dhaka, Maternity and Child Health Centre at Nazira bazaar in Dhaka, Pirgacha Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur, Godagari Upazila Health Complex in Rajshahi, Dinajpur Sadar Hospital, Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex in Mymensingh, Delduar Upazila Health Complex in Tangail, Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia, Pabna Sadar Hospital and Atgharia Upazila Health Complex in Pabna.
Besides, the ACC caught Md Abu Musa Bhuiyan, an official at the emergency unit of Mugda General Hospital red handed and terminated for taking bribe.
The doctors who were found absent during Monday’s drive will get letter from ACC, said the ACC DG, issuing a warning “Stern action would be taken against any kind of irregularities”.
