9th SAARC Film Festival postponed
The 9th edition of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Film Festival which was scheduled to begin in Colombo, Sri Lanka on May 7 has been deferred due to the series of bomb blasts that tore through churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka leaving around three hundred people dead on April 21.

Monjurul Islam Megh, Bangladesh advisor and distributor of SAARC Film Festival informed that the film festival, which promotes films produced in the SAARC countries, has been rescheduled and will begin on July 2. 'Five Bangladeshi films are going to participate in the ninth edition of the festival,' said Megh.

The films are Nasiruddin Yousuff's Alpha, Tauquir Ahmed's 'Fagun Haway', Noor Imran Mithu's 'Kamola Rocket', Noman Robin's 'Quarter Mile Country' and Chitali Samaddar and Saiful Akbar Khan's 'See You'.

Among the films, 'Alpha' will be screened in Master Films Section, while 'Fagun Haway' and 'Kamola Rocket' will be screened in the Competition Section. 'Quarter Mile Country' and 'See You' will be screened in Short Film Section.

Nasiruddin Yousuff's 'Alpha' features the life of a middle-aged painter who lives in the outskirt of Dhaka and finds the city life and his artistic aspirations in a collision. Tauquir Ahmed's 'Fagun Haway' charts and delineates the language movement of 1952. To show the movement, the film does not focus on Dhaka, the centre of the movement, but shows how people of a small town, Khulna, engaged themselves in the movement.

Noor Imran Mithu's 'Kamola Rocket' revolves around passengers of a steamer named 'Kamola Rocket'. An apparel factory owner, who boards the steamer as a first class passenger after setting fire to his own company to claim insurance money, meets a man accompanying a burnt woman who worked in his factory.
