Passport office neglects to issue SAARC visa stickers
DHAKA: Department of Immigration and Passport is not responding to the letter of the Foreign Ministry on SAARC Visa Exemption Stickers.
The passport office has not been issuing SAARC Visa Exemption Stickers for journalists and businessmen for week.
As per the decision of SAARC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent the letter to the Directorate of Passport to add Visa Exemption Stickers to the passports of journalists and businessmen after considering it in the process.
According to the SAARC decision, Visa Exemption Stickers are given under 22 categories including, journalists and businessmen, to perform professional duties.
As a result, no visas are required for 8 countries in the Saarc region.
The Foreign Ministry and the SAARC Secretariat monitor this issue.
An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Directorate of Passport is bound to issue Saarc Visa Exemption Stickers after receiving the letter from Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There is no complexity. However, it is not clear why director of passport stopped issuing stickers.
