37th span of Padma Bridge to be installed Thursday
The 37th span (2-C) is likely to be installed on the Padma Bridge on Thursday if the elements remains favourable no technical problems occur.
The span will be installed on Piers 9 and 10 at the Mawa-end in Munshiganj. Following the installation of the 37th span, the 5,550 meters or higher 5.5 kilometers of the bridge can be visible.
However, if any issue occurs, the span will be installed on Friday.
It was explained by Padma Bridge's executive engineer (Main Bridge) Dewan Md Abdul Kader on Wednesday afternoon.
He said the floating crane Tian-e will sail from Mawa's Kumarbhogh Construction Yard with the 150-meter long span for the designated piers at about 9:00am on Thursday. When there is no technical problem and weather remains favourable, the span will be installed on the piers on a single day. However, the span will be installed on Friday if there are almost any problems.
Meanwhile, after the installing the 37th span, the 38th span (1-A) will be installed on the Piers 1 and 2 on November 16, the 39th span (2-D) on the Piers 10 and 11 on November 23, the 40th span (2-E) on the Piers 11 and 12 on December 2, and the 41st span (2-F) on the Piers 12 and 13 on December 10.
The 6.15-km long double-layered bridge could have a total of 41 spans which will be installed on 42 piers -- 21 piers at Mawa-end and other 21 piers at Jajira-end as all of the piers have previously become visible.
The multi-purpose Padma Bridge is likely to be opened in 2021.
