PANCHAGARH:  Two construction workers died after inhaling poisonous gas while working inside a septic tank at Vojonpur Maligos village of Tetulia upazila of the district on Sunday (July 8).

The deceased were identified as Bablu, 20, son of Alauddin, hailed from Mirgar area of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila, and Mahbub, 30, son of Khayrul, of Bakshigos area of the upazila.

2 workers climbed down to open lid of a septic tank of Gamir Uddin’s house at Maligos village.  With no response from inside after a long while, the duo was recovered fainted, and was taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead, quoting Jahurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tetulia Model Police Station.

Toxic gas collected as opening of the septic tank was closed for a couple of months. The workers did not wait enough to let the gas out after opening it. The death could be blamed for their immediate descent into the tank, Tetulia Upazila Parishad Chairman Rejaul Karim Shahin told Banglanews.
