'Poramon 2' is not original!
Amongst all the films that were released in this year's Eid-ul-Fitr, 'Poramon 2' was critically acclaimed. Media expertise and critics said that a new team and a strong original story was the main driving force behind the success of the film. Director Raihan Rafi made strong comment that the story of 'Poramon 2' is original and raw.
However, after watching the movie, young filmmaker Bulbul Biswas said that the film is a fine adaptation of another film. In his official Facebook page, he posted a status on July 4 saying that 'Poramon 2' is an adaptation of Tamil film 'Paruthiveeran'.
With the post he also shared the poster of these two movies. His statement read, "We should learn, what is adaptation and what is plagiarism from 'Poramon 2'. I have never seen such a beautiful adaptation of a foreign film in Bangladeshi film."
However, Director Raihan Rafi has denied his statement by saying that the story of 'Poramon 2' can't be matched with any other films in world let along with 'Paruthiveeran'.In his words, "Generally what do we see in a film? The villain dies in the end in a traditional movie. In some cases we see both the hero-heroine die.
That's the exact thing we had in our film. One can say that that dying of hero and heroine is an adaptation from another film, but adaptation of a film means that a different film matching the same concept with another film. I can challenge that the concept of 'Poramon 2' can't be matched with any other film in the world."
Then why did another contemporary director raised such an issue? In a question like that Rafi added, "I think because of some personal clash he made that statement."
On the other hand, Bulbul Biswas explained his comment by saying, "I don't watch Tamil films that much. However,if any films get critically acclaimed I try to watch that.
In my Facebook post, I praised the adaptation. Recently I read a film review on 'Poramon 2' where the reviewer compared the film with Tamil film 'Paruthiveeran'. After that I watched both the films and I felt that 'Poramon 2' was a beautiful adaptation of that film." "Adaptation is not a bad thing and Raihan Rafi is like a young brother to me.So,there can't be any personal clash," added he.
