2 owners of FR Tower arrested
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the owners of the land and a part of the FR Tower after a deadly fire in the 22-storey building had killed at least 26 people and injured many.
BNP leader Tasvir Ul Islam, owner of a part of the building, was arrested from his Baridhara residence around 10:30pm Saturday (March 30).
Land owner SMH Faruk was arrested around 1am Sunday (March 31).
DB (Dhaka North) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Golam Saklain Sithil confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
SMH Faruk, Rupayan Group Chairman Liakat Ali Khan Mukul and Tasvir Ul Islam, among unnamed others, were accused in a case filed by Banani Police Outpost In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Milton Dutta, as a plaintiff, Saturday noon.
Kurigram district unit BNP President and BNP central committee member Tasvir Ul Islam is the owner of 20th, 21st and 22nd floors of FR Tower and also managing director (MD) of Quasem Drycells Ltd.
He also acted as president of the building’s operating society.
As per information collected from the building authority, Engr SMH Faruk is owner of the land.
However, at least 26 persons were killed and more than 50 suffered injuries as the 22-storey skyscraper at Banani road no.17 caught fire Thursday (March 28) noon.
