1st phase of the election at 24 municipalities underway
Election at 24 municipalities beneath the first phase started out on Monday morning.
Voting started at 8am and will continue till 4pm.
The municipalities are: Panchagarh, Pirganj in Thakurgaon, Fulbari in Dinajpur, Badarganj in Rangpur, Kurigram, Puthia and Katakhali in Rajshahi, Shajadpur in Sirajganj, Chatmohor in Pabna, Khoksha in Kushtia, Chuadanga, Chalna in Khulna, Betagi in Barguna, Kuakata in Patuakhali, Ujirpur and Bakerganj in Barishal, Gafargaon in Mymensingh, Madan in Netrokona, Manikganj, Dhamrai in Dhaka, Dirai in Sunamganj, Borolekha in Moulvibazar, Shayestaganj in Habiganj, and Sitakundu in Chattogram.
Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, Islami Andolon Bangladesh and Jatiya Ganatantrik Get together candidates are contesting found in the mayoral posts beneath the first phase of the election.
Besides, independent candidates happen to be contesting the polls.
A total of 93 individuals are vying for mayoral posts at 24 municipalities, while 277 candidates for reserved seats of councilors and 848 for basic councilors are contesting the election.
