11 including Keraniganj OC sued over rape
A human rights worker filed a case against 11 people, including Keraniganj Model Police Station officer in-charge Shaker Md Zubair on charge of rape and association in the acts.
The case was filed before the court of Dhaka's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-6 judge Shahidul Islam on Tuesday.
The rest accused are the police station in-charge (operation) Golam Sarwar, sub-inspector Rajaul Amin Bashar, Md Faruk, 35, Haydar, 60, Md. Iqbal, 35, Md Hanif, 50, Md Hanif Member, 60, Md Rafiq, 40, Md Shafiq, 35, Md Babul alias Madhu, 35.
According to the case statement, the victim was going to Keraniganj to meet colleagues on April, 20. When she reached Arshinagar, she saw some people were being chased by some 20-30 men for an altercation over collecting extortion.
She called the police helpline (999) for help. Seeing this, the chasers attacked her and dishonoured her. Among them, accused Iqbal snatched her gold chain away.
Police, later, rescued the victim from the spot and sent to Mitford Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
After treatment the victim went to Keraniganj Model Police Station to complain in written. Instead of taking the complaint, OC Joaber and OC Golam Sarwar advised her to compromise with the accused.
The document also read accused Haider, Rafiq, Shafiq and two other unidentified men took the victim behind Ghatkharchar Primary School when she reached in front of the school around 11:00 pm on April, 24.
Then, she was raped, and given life threat if she disclose the incident.
On the night, the victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But without any test she was discharged from the hospital on April 27.
On May 3, after experiencing tremendous pain on abdominal area, she went to Mitford Hospital. Not giving proper treatments, she was sent home with medicines. The victim alleged that she did not get the proper treatment from the two hospitals due to influences of the accused.
After the incident, police accepted the case but advised the victim again to compromise with the accused.
The statement also said that on May, 31, the accused tried to abduct her near Basila Bridge. The rickshaw puller started screaming when the accused were trying to pick up her on a microbus.
The accused left the victim and fled the scene.
