We don’t want Rakhine: Hasina
Regarding the proposal of US congressman to include Rakhine in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “We are happy with our 147,570 square kilometers. Myanmar will enjoy its sovereignty. We'll also enjoy our sovereignty. We do not want Rakhine”.

She told this at a press conference at Gonobhaban on Monday (July 8) after her recent China tour.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “Bangladesh has given shelter to Rohingyas. Rakhine is part of Myanmar. We don’t want it. Why do you want to include Rakhine in Bangladesh?”

“Congressmen of a big country may have forgotten their past. There was a civil war in their country. Rakhine is always a conflict-prone state. Why would we take responsibility of such troubled area? I will not do it anyway. We don’t want it.”

Regarding the extension of age-limit of entry into the government service to 35 years, the premier said, “When the discussion began to increase the age-limit in the job entry, then I discussed the matter with the PSC chairman. As per discussion, this is not possible”.
