War crimes: 3 death row convicts file pleas with SC
Three 1971 war crimes convicts from Patuakhali, who were awarded death penalty by the ICT, have filed appeals with the Supreme Court challenging the punishment.
Their lawyer Abdus Sattar Palwan confirmed the matter to media Wednesday (September 12).
On August 13, International Crimes Tribunal sentenced five war crimes accused from Patuakhali to death.
They are—Iman Shikder, Abdul Ghani Hawlader, Abdul Awal alias Moulvi Awal, Abdus Sattar Pada and Sulaiman Mridha.
Of them, Ghani, Awal and Mridha filed the appeals with the apex court.
They are accused in six types of charges including murder, genocide, rape and arson attack committed during the Liberation War of 1971.
