Wadali brothers rock Dhaka
Indian sufi troupe Wadali Brothers entertained music lovers of Dhaka at the fourth edition of Dhaka International Folk Fest in style on Thursday.
It was nearing midnight when Wadali Brothers took the stage to enthrall Dhaka audience presenting sufi songs composed by renowned sufi poets like Bulleh Shah, Amir Khasru, Farid Shah and others.
The Punjab-based Wadali Brothers earlier comprised of Ustad Puranchand Wadali and his brother Pyarelal Wadali, but since the death of Pyarelal Wadali in last March Ustad Puranchand's son Lakhwinder Wadali has been accompanying his father.
The father-son duo, accompanied by instrumentalists, rocked Dhaka audience rendering popular sufi songs including Tere maam, Mey to priya se and Dam dam mast qalandar, songs that preach love for God and his creations. Before Wadali Brothers, Indian folk singer Satyaki Banerjee, who is equally popular in Bangladesh for his versatility, had his journey with Dhaka audience.
The singer-musician cast a spell on the audience with his engrossing presentation of Bangla folk songs including Amar ekla nitai and went on to present popular folk songs like De de paal tule de, Bangali korechhe bhagoban and others. Polish folk band Dikanda, performing for the first time in Bangladesh, captivated the audience with its acoustic gig featuring a blend of European and Oriental folk tunes and traditions.
The band presented songs like Jinla ro, Appaosta jane na, Ya sare maane, Usti usti rada and others to win the hearts of Dhaka audience.The festival, earlier, opened with folk dance recitals by artistes of local troupe Bhabna and also featured performance by local singer Abdul Hai Dewan.
