Vaas resignation irks SLC
Sri Lanka's former pace spearhead Chaminda Vaas has resigned as the team's fast bowling instructor for the tour of West Indies time before their departure to the Caribbean over his remuneration, the country's cricket board said on Monday.
Vaas, who retired from international cricket in '09 2009 having claimed 355 wickets from 111 checks, was appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) only on Fri and announced his resignation effective March 26.
He will not be accessible to tour West Indies as an associate of the support personnel, the table added, and described Vaas' decision as "irresponsible."
"It's particularly disheartening to note that in an monetary climate including the one facing the world now, Vaas has manufactured this abrupt and irresponsible approach on the eve of the team's departure predicated on personal money," SLC said in a declaration.
SLC said Vaas had resorted to "positioning the administration, the cricketers and the game at ransom" by resigning citing the administration's refusal to accede to an "unjustifiable demand for an increased USD remuneration".
Vaas is a contracted worker of SLC and worked simply because the fast bowling mentor at their high-performance center before replacing Australian David Saker with the senior team.
Sri Lanka take up three 2020 and three one-day internationals as well as two Tests - all nowadays in Antigua from March 3.
