University teachers condemn attacks on protesting students
A group of teachers of various public universities on Sunday condemned the recent attacks on protesting students and demanded explary punishment to the attackers.

The group of the teachers also demanded resignation of Shipping Minister Shahzahan Khan.

They came up with these demand at a press conference at the teacher’s lounge of teachers students center (TSC) of DU in the afternoon.

About 20 teachers of Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagor University were present on the function. 

JU anthropology department professor Sayeed Ferdous read out a written statement and said, “Students who are in jail must be released and cases filed against school and college students and quota reformists should be withdrawn”.

“Identified attackers who swooped on students must be brought to book and take steps to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country” he added

He also said, “It is not acceptable and condemnable that pro government forces and its law enforces jointly had attacked on students who were demonstrating nonviolently demanding road safety”.

“Government did not take steps to stop attacks on students and didn’t bring attackers under law but cases have been filed against students” he added 

Expressing solidarity with PM’s speech that don’t pay heed to rumors he said, “There have been created a scope to spread rumor by creating obstacle in collecting news element and publishing and broadcasting news of recent incidents by media that is a try of hiding real incident from public”.

They also called all classes of people to avoid any kinds of rumors that hampers our society and raise voice with nonviolently against repression. 

Among other, JU economic professor Anu Mohammad, DU Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Gitiara Nasren, Fahmidul Haq, lecturer Marzia Rahman, International Relations dept associate Prof Tanjim Uddin Khan, Sociology dept associate prof Samina Luthfa, Economic dept associate prof Rushad Faridi were present here.
