UN, WB Chiefs in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp
COX’S BAZAR: UN Secretary General António Guterres and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim arrived in Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, to visit the there Monday (July 2).
Their caravan made a stoppage at the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila.
The team includes Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Minister AH Mahmmod Ali and officials of different organizations of UN including UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) Chief Filippo Grandi and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund Natalia Kanem
Getting off the vehicles, they visited the transit point of the refugee camp.
António Guterres and Jim Yong Kim are supposed to visit the main Rohingya camp and the distinctive shelters for the Rohingya women.
The duo are scheduled to hold a press briefing at the D-5 block of Kutupalong Rohingya camp.
Earlier, the UN chief and the WB chief left Dhaka for Cox’s Bazar, by a special aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, around 8:45am. Afterwards, they took rest for a while at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar.
The team are expected to hold a brief meeting with the officials of Bangladesh government and international agencies in Cox’s Bazar.
However, António Guterres and Jim Yong Kim are witnessing the Rohingya situation in a combined visit though they came to Dhaka on separate visit.
