Myanmar forces fire gunshots at Tambru boarder
COX’S BAZAR: Myanmar soldiers opened blank fire at the zero line along the Tambru border with Bangladesh at Naikkhyangchharhi under Bandarban, swelling up tensions between the two neighboring nations.
Locals said that the stranded Rohingya people protested while the Myanmar armies intending to enter the no-man’s land. Some of the Rohingya families entered Bangladesh leaving the zero line after being panicked as the soldiers opened fire in the air near the barbed-wire fence.
Meanwhile, Myanmar enhanced troops and dispatched huge arms and ammunitions at the Tambru border.
The move has widened panic among the Rohingya minorities. Myanmar armies have brought arms loaded in as many as seven trucks since the morning, they said.
The enhanced deployment of Myanmar army and Border Guard Police (BGP) at their border side is barring the Rohingyas, staying in the no-mans-land or zero point, to go back to Myanmar.
“The Myanmar soldiers hurl 10 rounds of bullet in the air at around 9:00pm. We fell more panicked because we fear that something untoward may happen to us anytime”, said Dil Mohamamd, a Rohingya living in the zero line.
Moreover, the Myanmar authority have announced in loudspeaker 11 times since the morning asking the Rohingyas to leave zero line, added Dil.
The sudden movement in Myanmar side of the border has triggered an alarm to Bangladesh government.
Myanmar ambassador to Dhaka Lwin Oo was summoned as the country has violated border norms by deploying additional forces with arms on their bordering area opposite to Tombru border.
Acting Foreign Secretary M Khorshed handed over a strongly worded note verbal on behalf of Bangladesh to Ambassador Lwin Oo.
However, around 7 lakh Rohingya people fled into Bangladesh following persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine state starting from August last year. Since then, Bangladesh with the help of International community is having talks with Myanmar to solve the crisis and sent back the Rohingyas to their homeland in a peaceful manner.
