Trump gives his blessing to TikTok deal with Walmart, Oracle
President Donald Trump said Saturday he previously approved a deal allowing Silicon Valley giant Oracle to be the data spouse for TikTok to avert a shutdown of the massively popular Chinese-owned video app that Washington offers called a risk of security.

The offer, announced by the companies, also contains Walmart as a commercial partner and would create a fresh US company named TikTok Global.

“I think it’s going to be a fantastic package,” Trump said. “I have given the offer my blessing. If they take action that’s great, if they don’t that’s okay too.”

Shortly after, TikTok-owned simply by China’s ByteDance-confirmed the agreement, which was included with companies racing against a Sunday deadline set by Trump’s administration after which latest downloads of the software would be banned.

Oracle could buy a 12.5 percent stake in TikTok before another IPO, and Walmart a 7.5 percent stake.

According to a resource close to the matter, ByteDance would keep carefully the remaining shares. But since the Chinese company is usually 40 percent owned by American buyers, TikTok would finally be majority American-owned.

“We are pleased that the proposal by TikTok, Oracle, and Walmart will resolve the secureness concerns of the US Administration and settle inquiries around TikTok’s long term in the US,” a spokeswoman for TikTok told AFP.

ByteDance also confirmed the deal on social media, telling the three companies would reach an agreement that was “in line with US and Chinese regulation” as quickly as possible.

If it involves fruition, the offer could tag the de-escalation of a technology battle between Washington and Beijing.

It might also allow Us citizens to continue using the wildly popular app: the united states Division of Commerce announced it had been postponing the ban on TikTok downloads until September 27, citing “recent great developments.”

Security concerns

Trump said the “reliability will be 100 percent” and that the firms would use split cloud servers.

The deal will lead to the creation of a fresh company, headquartered in Texas, that will have “nothing in connection with China” but it's still called TikTok, based on the president.

Oracle will maintain demand of hosting all US customer data and the protection of the associated personal computers, while Walmart will give its online sales, order management and payment products and services.

In a joint statement, Oracle and Walmart said TikTok Global would “spend a lot more than 5 billion in new tax dollars to the US Treasury,” while they and the other companies involved in the deal would release an initiative to build up online education.

According to the All of us Treasury, the TikTok package still must be finalised simply by the involved corporations and approved simply by a federal national secureness committee.
