Those behind Papia's misdeeds to handle action: Home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Friday said those behind Shamima Nur Papia, expelled general secretary of Jubo Mohila League’s Narsingdi unit, will be brought to book.
“A study is underway against those committed crimes together with Papia. Those found to be engaged will be brought beneath the law. No-one will be spared through the tenure of the present government,” he said.
While addressing a function marking the inauguration of a building of Darul Ulum Mabia Islamia Madrasa at Gerua Bazar in Ashulia, the minister also said the drive against corruption and casino will continue.
Discussing the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, he said it's the jurisdiction of court. “The judiciary is fully independent... the government doesn’t interfere in it,” he said.
Asaduzzaman said the court took the decision about Khaleda’s bail according to law after considering all of the aspects.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Papia, 28, her husband Mofizur Rahman alias Sumon Chowdhury alias Moti Sumon, 38, and their two associates - Sabbir Khandaker, 29, and Sheikh Tayiba, 22 - from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on February 22 while these were trying to flee the country.
The next day, the elite force raided both city houses of Papia and her rented presidential suite at a five-star hotel, and seized Tk 58.41 lakh in cash, seven passports, around Tk 2.12 lakh in cash and huge fake currencies.
