Suspected drug peddler killed in 'gun-battle'
An alleged drug trader was killed in a 'gunfight' with detectives at Shambhuganj Charpuliamari in Sadar upazila of Mymensingh early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Mia, 27, son of Suruj Driver, a resident of Kalibari. Sumon was also a listed criminal, police said.

With this, the number of deaths in anti-drugs crackdown stood at 254 across the country since May 12.

On secret information, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:45am, Shaha Kamal Akanda, officer in-charge of district DB police, said.

Sensing presence of the team, the criminals opened fire on them forcing the DB police to fire back for self-defense.

The criminals also hurled brickchips to police, the OC said.

Later, police recovered the body of Sumon and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue.

Police recovered four kgs of hemp and ten shells of bullet from the scene.
