Soumya’s omission due to ‘chaos’
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had on Sunday disclosed the names of 16 players for the brand new central contract following its meeting, nonetheless it raised various eyebrows that Soumya Sarkar had not been on the list. Everyone was curious to know about the reason behind the exclusion of the left-hander, specifically as he has been a regular member of the national group for quite some time.

If Soumya's exclusion shocked many, then simply what chief selector Minhajul Abedin revealed yesterday about missing his brand in the BCB's deal list was nothing brief of a huge surprise. "This was simply a typing mistake. We will send his brand by correcting the list. BCB's media section will concern you a news release soon," Minhajul told the Daily Superstar yesterday.

BCB had mistakenly excluded the cricketer's name from the list and interestingly it had only come to the selectors' focus when reporters inquired about any of it in the afternoon yesterday, although different press outlets had raised problems about Soumya's absence found in yesterday's newspapers. Within the last season, Soumya had enjoyed in 25 of the 30 matches the Tigers have enjoyed in all three formats.

Minhajul also said that Soumya will be given a good white-ball contract. "Soumya is time for being contracted and we will keep him inside our white-ball agreement list. Since we were forming distinct contracts for white-ball and red-ball cricket, there is very much chaos and, in a bid, to exclude players from the list, we still left Soumya's name out," Minhajul discussed the reason to an area media.

"It's a mistake by the selectors. We are anticipated to add him soon inside our agreements' list for white-ball [cricket],'' explained Akram Khan, chairman of the BCB's cricket functions committee.

For the very first time, BCB has enacted different contracts for red-ball cricket. Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Taijul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz have been contained in both white-ball and red-ball categories.

Mominul Haque, Nayeem Hasan, Abu Jayed and Ebadot Hossain have already been included solely for red-ball cricket while T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad along with Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Afif Hossain and Mohammad Naim form the set of players who have gotten white-ball contracts.
