Local players need to do well for Warriors: Soumya Sarkar
Cumilla Warriors batsman Soumya Sarkar has sought good performance from local cricketers to book a place in playoffs of the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Warriors played nine matches so far and won only four. With eight points, they are now at number five in the points table and needed at least four more points to qualify for the playoffs.

“Our local players are failing to deliver good performance in BPL which is the main reason behind our poor show. But still, we have a good chance to qualify for the playoffs if our local guys come up with good performances in the last three games,” Soumya told reporters on Sunday at the national academy ground in Mirpur.

“If we think about winning all three remaining games right now, it’ll become a burden for us. Instead, we’re focusing on the next game. We want to take match by match,” the southpaw added.

Soumya scored 246 runs in nine games at an average of 30.75. At the same time, he bagged 11 wickets in as many matches.

“I am enjoying bowling in BPL. When I fail as a batsman, I think it’s a bad day for me. But when I bowl and take wickets, it gives me self-satisfaction. So it’s important for me to bowl regularly,” Soumya added.

However, the 25-year-old said he is not happy with his batting performance in BPL. “I’ve scored 30-34 runs several times in BPL. If I could stretch those to fifties, it’d have been different for me,” he said.
