Solo show depicts struggles for liberation
Artist Biren Shome has depicted the Liberation War, role of country's founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other issues in his 13th solo exhibition under way at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi.
The 12-day exhibition titled 'Liberation War Bangabandhu Bangladesh' has been organized by Gallery Chitrak.The displayed paintings had been created using mediums like acrylic, mixed media, Pen and Ink wash and watercolor.
The artworks gives the audience a glimpse into the tumultuous days of the Liberation War, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic March 7 speech, mass killings by the Pakistani occupation forces, nature of Bangladesh and others.
'I got admitted to Institute of Fine Arts in 1965. We drew political banners, festoons and placards for many students' organizations like Chhatra League, Students' Union and others during various movements including six point movement in 1966, mass uprising in 1969 and others. 
The displayed paintings at the exhibition depict my thoughts and observations,' said Biren Shome.
National professor Anisuzzaman inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest on November 15. Advocate Nahid Mahtab was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony, presided over by acclaimed artist Monirul Islam.
To mention a few works, an acrylic painting titled 'Killing Field-71' depicts the genocides committed by the Pakistani occupation forces. The work shows human figures lying on the ground. 
A mixed media painting titled 'Bangabandhu-1' portrays country's founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman giving the historic speech on March 7, 1971. A pen and Ink wash painting titled 'Liberation War' shows human figures holding weapons in their hand with red Sun in the background.
Besides, the acrylic painting titled 'Motherland-7' depicts the motherland. The majority of the canvas, containing various lines, forms and shapes, is covered in red color. The exhibition will remain open till November 26.
