Sherpur-Jamalpur roads under water; vehicular movement snapped
Vehicular movement remained suspended on the Sherpur-Jamalpur roads at Porar Dokan and Shimultoli areas as the roads went under flood water.
Sherpur Bus Owners Association general secretary Sujit Kumar Ghosh said, "It is not possible to ply buses on the Dhaka and northern routes from Sherpur to Jamalpur as roads are under water."
Water level rose by 7cm at Brahmaputro Bridge point till 6pm on Friday evening and was flowing 20 centimeters above the danger level at Sirajganj point, said Jamalpur Water Development Board gauge reader Golam Mostafa.
New areas in Sadar and Sreebordi upazilas were flooded on Friday, leaving huge number of people marooned. Crops, paddy fields were washed away in the flood water.
Four people were killed in the flood water in last six days.
District relief officer Abdur Rauf said a total of 172 villages under 35 unions of fice upazilas are submerged and 63,000 people are marooned. Educational institutions are closed for a week due to flood water.
Relief are distributing on behalf of deputy commissioner and police admistration among the flood affected people.
